This is our Lhasa to Lhasa option for a tour to the Everest Base Camp with a walk from Rongbuk Gompa to the base camp and back, a 12 km hike!

The itinerary packs in all the highlights of Tibet, including the grand panorama of the principal chain of the Himalayas, with the north face of Everest as its focal point, the summit almost ready to touch. We begin with a tour of Lhasa, and making sure you get properly acclimatized to altitude before heading out via the southern route past Yamdroktso, the turquoise lake, to Gyantse, Shigatse on to Everest Base Camp, then return back to Lhasa; there is an option to continue to the Tibet-Nepal border and Kathmandu. This is one of the most popular Tibet-traverse tours for the past 20 years.

Day 1: Shanghai/Xining:
Fly from Shanghai to Xining this morning. Arrive Xinning after noon. Brief city tour before transfer to the railway station where you board your Sky Train and settle in comfortable soft sleeper
compartment for your memorable journey to Tibet.

Day 2: On the train/Lhasa-D
Spend whole day on the train to enjoy the passing by tranquil
countryside, Tibetan villages and Tibetan animals before evening arrival in Lhasa. Check into the hotel and get adjusted to the altitude of one of the world's highest plateaus-about 12,000 ft. above sea level. (Breakfast, lunch on own account)

Day 3: Lhasa
Spend whole day exploring fascinating Lhasa. Visit the world-famous Potala Palace, the architectural wonder in the center of Lhasa and former home of the Dalai Lama. Head to the famous Barkhor Market where you may shop for Tibetan items. Experience Jokhang Temple, the spiritual center of the country. This evening, enjoy a memorable Tibetan dinner.

Day 4: Lhasa
After breakfast, sightsee Norbulingkha Summer Palace, built by the seventh Dalai Lama in the 18th century. Then visit Drepung Monastery, tiered against a mountain in traditional Tibetan style, known as the most important monastery of Gelugpa in Tibetan Buddhism. This afternoon, visit Sera Monastery, one of the 'great three' Gelukpa university monasteries in Tibet.

Day 5: Lhasa / Gyantse / Shigatse-B, L, D
Drive to Shigatse today. On the way, enjoy a wondrous nature view standing by the Yamdrok Yumtso Lake and overlook the colossal glacier when passing by the Karola snow mountain. At Gyantse, view Pelkor Chode Monastery and the Kumbum, a stupa comprised of hundreds ofchapels said to contain 100,000 Buddha images. Arrive at Shigatse by late afternoon and check into the hotel.

Shigatse is the second biggest city in Tibet, 90kms away from Gyangtse. The famous Tashilhunpo monastery in Shigatse, a seat of the Panchan Lama and one of the six most important Gelukpa monasteries in Tibet, was built in 1447 by the first Dalai Lama.


Day 6: Shigatse/Xegar (New Dingri)-B,L,D
Drive to Xegar. Overnight in Qomolangma Hotel. Along the way, visit the Sakya Monastery, the principal monastery of the Sakyapa Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It is 250 km from Shigatse to Xegar. Sakya monastery, once the base of the Sakyapa sect which rose to power in the 13th century, is located in the Zhongqu River valley.  

Day 7: Xegar / Everest Base Camp / Shigatse -B,L,D
After an early breakfast, head for Rongbuk Monastery, a Nyingmapa monastery , got its name because of the legend about Padmasambhava, founder of Nyingmapa, who began his religious cultivation here.It is the highest monastery on earth It is also the best place on earth to view the Everest. The first sight of the mighty Everest simply leaves you speechless. All the hardship you bear along the way makes sense at this while. The best moments to watch Mt. Everest's are early morning and late evening when Everest is shining like a goddess in the sunglow. From here, drive to Shigatse for overnight.

Day 8: Shigatse/Lhasa-B,L,D
This morning, see 15th century Tashilumpo Monastery, the traditional seat of successive Panchen Lamas, the second highest ranking tulku lineage in the Gelugpa tibetan buddhist hierarchy, after the Dalai Lama. Then up to Lhasa. Tour the old section of the town before checking to the hotel.

Day 9: Depart Lhasa-B
Morning is free to explore on your own. Afternoon, transfer to the airport for your flight to your next destination.
